Hi
The propaganda campaign by climate doomsayers continues unabated in spite of the fact that global warming stopped more than 17 years ago. In fact, we are now experiencing a naturally-occurring cooling cycle.
During the past year, David Suzuki’s columns have been appearing in our local newspaper at least once per month together with a similar number of articles/letters by other victims of the global-warming/climate-change hoax. Only a few articles were written by climate realists.
Suzuki’s August rant prompted me to reply as follows.
Best regards,

CLIMATE DOOMSAYERS ARE GETTING DESPERATE
Contrary to the claim made by David Suzuki (Trail Times, 8 August 2014 – Copied below), it is the climate doomsayers that are getting desperate, primarily because nature refuses to co-operate with their catastrophic, CO2-induced, global-warming narrative. Suzuki’s nonsensical diatribe is obviously inconsistent with the scientific method. So is his endorsement of the BBC policy to suppress scientific debate.
It appears that David Suzuki is still living in the mythical, computer world of discredited climate models. Consequently, he continues to deny reality and demonize carbon dioxide (“CO2”).
While appearing on a recent Australian Broadcasting Company’s TV program, Suzuki learned, apparently for the first time, that global warming stopped more than 17 years ago. Astonishingly, Suzuki freely admitted that he was completely unfamiliar with the 4 agencies responsible for collecting and publishing the world’s temperature data used by the UN.
The chief scientist of one of these agencies (Professor Phil Jones of the UK’s CRU) testified in 2010 before a Parliamentary Select Committee that global warming had stopped in 1995. His testimony related to the 2009 Climategate scandal.
Unfortunately, the CO2 content of our atmosphere has been seriously depleted by natural processes to such an extent that we can never hope to restore the highly-desirable levels of CO2 found in ancient atmospheres. The dinosaurs enjoyed an atmosphere containing 5 times the current CO2 level. Our reserves of oil and gas would have to be 30 times larger to even double the CO2 content of our CO2-impoverished atmosphere.
It seems that David Suzuki should be reminded of a fundamental biological fact; that is, CO2 is essential to sustain plant and animal life on this planet. Regretfully, CO2 does not give us the means to control our ever-changing climate. With 4 major climate cycles, the planet’s climate has been changing since the beginning of its existence.
Global cooling has always been, and will continue to be, the greatest climate threat to civilizations. We must learn to adapt or perish.

I have been talking to my friend Dr. Thorpe Watson for many years on this subject.
Being an Applied Scientist and understanding many of the issues that are being debated, I find that the manner in which Thorpe presents his facts on Climate Change, very acceptable
Thanks Thorpe

I thought all of the dinosaurs had passed on but it seems that some are still alive and kicking.

We are thankful that they left us their evidence to study the past as a better indication of what we can expect in the future over a longer period of time.
Cheers!

Professor Phil Jones did not state that climate change has stopped. He said that the increase since 1995 was statistically non-significant as not enough data was available. Since his statement, more years of data have been added to the data set and that same professor has categorically stated that the rise in temperatures is now statistically significant.

It is now generally accepted, including the UN’s IPCC, that the planet has not experienced any global warming for over 17 years. Solar scientists, including the Russians, are predicting another Little Ice Age within 40 years. The LIA occurred between the last warm period (Medieval Warm Period) and the current warm period (Modern Warm Period). It appears that we have passed the peak of the Modern Warm Period.

There’s a perfect graph to illustrate this on Page 6 of this document from the UN:

Thanks for following all this
I will pass along your comment to Dr. Watson as I am sure he will have a further comment.
I guess I am one of those who find it amazing that the dinosaurs were buried almost immediately. So we have had some real climate and other issues in the past that many Scientists continue to research.
The elliptical orbit of the Earth around the sun that maximizes every 60,000 years is another factor in all this.
I am sure we will get more comments. I like it!

Hi again Elmer
One thing to keep in mind is the rapidity of the changes. The increase in CO2 is unprecedented. It’s never increased more than 30 parts per million in a thousand years. Whereas it’s now increased that much in 17 years!
The problem isn’t climate change- the problem is the speed in which it’s changing. There isn’t enough time for ecosystems to adapt. As for the dinosaurs, what happened to them again?
On a lighter note, I hope you’re doing just fine and dandy. I have clay oven questions for you next time I see you!

I have two friends that are really informed on Climate Change and I am personally very impressed that the press has now dropped Global Warming in this discussion.
That is progress!
I am sure that there will be comments from Anton and Thorpe and I will leave that opportunity to them.
I am very interested in the “petch” construction at Whatshan and I am sure we will be able to get that planning going this fall on site

The increasing CO2 content of the atmosphere is primarily due to natural out-gassing of the oceans since the last glaciation period 10,000 years ago. If one accepts the data obtained from the Vostok and Greenland ice cores, it can be concluded that the current increases relate to the Medieval Warm Period. To fully understand this relationship, it is necessary to have an appreciation of phase equilibrium principles, specifically Henry’s Law.
It should be noted that the rate of ocean out-gassing is about 10 times our emission rate. This explains the rapid recovery rate of seasonal CO2 levels as shown by the Keeling curves on NOAA’s website for the Mauna Loa Observatory.
